Gold Battle Of Britain White Cliffs Spitfire Tour With Sit In Spitfire OFFER
Aero Legends staff greet you at the Aero Legends main reception and proceed with your check-in. Headcorn Aerodrome has free parking and good facilities. With excellent viewing areas alongside the grass runway, a café and licensed ‘Wings’ bar, we encourage your family and friends to savour the atmosphere and share your day.
We fly our guests in an ex-RAF 1946 de Havilland Devon (Subject to serviceability on the event day), famously used by Air Chief Marshall Sir Basil Embry as his personal transport during his time as Commander Of Allied Forces, Central Europe. In 1985 the aircraft joined the Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) at RAF Coningsby, where the aircraft was used as a crew transport in support of the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfires and Hurricanes. The Devon and its non-military sister the Dove were exceptionally successful, proving reliable and economical in service. They became one of the best selling British aircraft of the 1950’s. The Devon is a comfortable aircraft inside, with roomy seats and large panoramic windows. There are excellent photo opportunities.
In the Air
Soon after take-off you will be thrilled as the Spitfire draws alongside. Now you are flying in the very airspace where some of the most intense battles were fought. The sight of the Spitfire being put through its paces takes your breath away and your heart races as you imagine the emotions of the pilots in ‘the long hot summer of 1940’. You will fly in close formation to see the wonderful sight of the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, near Folkestone. Set in the cliff top this 80 metre propeller, with the statue of the Lone Pilot sitting in the middle, is a tribute to The Few who fought so valiantly in the Battle of Britain. As we circle overhead you will enjoy the spectacle of the Spitfire flying with you, and the Memorial as the backdrop – a photographer’s dream shot! Flying on from the Memorial, you will soar along the coast taking in Samphire Hoe, Dover harbour, (which was extensively dive bombed during the Battle) Dover Castle, and the famous Hell Fire Corner. Moving along the coast, you will be mesmerised by the White Cliffs of Dover. The iconic views of the Spitfire with the white chalk cliffs behind are something to behold.
After each flight our passengers have the opportunity to walk from their aircraft to view the iconic aircraft at close quarters, and take those very special close up photographs. Each passenger will receive an aircraft squadron print, which you can ask the pilot to sign if you wish.
Sit In Spitfire Included
Your chance to ‘Sit in a Spit’! This is your chance to sit in a real airworthy Spitfire Mk IX TD314. During the event the Spitfire requires refuelling and maintenance checks allowing us time to offer our flying guests a sit in the aircraft. Sit In A Spitfire experiences happen in the middle or the end of an event day, depending on how the flying schedule progresses.

Last Saturday was just a fantastic day, from start to finish. Thank you so much for giving us an opportunity to get so close to some really wonderful participants in aviation history – and participants in our nation’s history. The team were all very welcoming and helpful, and full of interesting information.
I’m sure Parky has countless photos of himself, but here are a few more for his (and your collection). Also, my thanks to you for squeezing me in on the Sunday Fly with a Spitfire event.
Just to say a huge thank you for Saturday, we had a wonderful time and are still processing the excitement of actually sitting in a Spitfire and flying alongside one. Special thanks to you all for being so welcoming and professional, so very generous with your time.
I just wanted to email you, to thank you for a fantastic day yesterday. Everyone at Aero Legends was really friendly, helpful and attentive throughout the day, and Parky was an absolute pleasure to talk to. All 3 of us were blown away by it, which surpassed our expectations…….a truly fantastic experience and a memory all 3 of us will treasure, particularly having the experience together.
